Engelhard
Engelhard is a company manufacturing medicines and supplementary medicinal products. Company’s headquarters are situated in Germany, in the town of Niederdorfelden in the vicinity of Frankfurt am Main. It was established as a small family venture by Karl Philipp Engelhard (see photograph to the right) in 1872. One of its first products, Isla-Moos lozenges, was packed by hand by Karl Philipp Engelhard, his wife and their four children, every evening after a long day at work. Since its humble beginnings, ENGELHARD has been continuously developing, creating new, and perfecting old products, finally turning into a medium-sized company with a distinguished place in the pharmacist profession.
The rise of the company is interesting, since it exemplifies how a pharmacy, “Rosenapotheke” manufacturing an array of complex preparations for its patients and colleagues, developed into a pharmaceutical company. A son of a pharmacy owner, Karl Philipp Engelhard, whose name the company still bears, decided to follow in his father's footsteps and became a reputable pharmacist in Frankfurt, with extensive knowledge and wide experience. The continuous increase in the number of products and their quantities led to the decision to separate the pharmacy from the medicine production in 1872, which is why this year is considered the year of establishment of this dynamic pharmaceutical company.
For over 125 years, ENGELHARD has been a reliable partner of doctors, pharmacists and patients in Germany and many countries worldwide. The company currently employs more than 200 qualified experts. Engelhard’s slogan “Your partner in health!” graphically describes their goals focused on the production of a wide range of effective, practical products and high level of company involvement in increasing the quality of life of persons suffering from respiratory diseases.
Every year, ENGELHARD invests substantial means into research and development, especially in testing the effectiveness of medicinal herbs like ivy and Icelandic lichen. Test results guarantee the safety and curative properties of its products.
Isla Moos is one of the oldest ready-made preparations to be developed in Germany. As early as 1860, the founder of the company Karl Philipp Engelhard developed and was producing large quantities of "Isla Moos paste", which became a popular and well-known medicine.
Prospan has a prominent place among numerous herbal medications, as an efficient cough relief medicine. After a number of tests, Engelhard developed ivy leaf extract, the main active ingredient of Prospan syrup and effervescent tablets.
